Plunge Cutting

BD Nuclear has developed a rig to allow plunge cutting with wire. The system is semi remote keeping in line with the principles of ALARP.

The rig is adjustable and designed specifically to cut openings into vault, cell or silo concrete roofs/walls. This is undertaken to allow equipment access to the voids for waste retrievals/access. The rig incorporates lifting arrangements to allow safe remote removal of the plug once freed.

High Level Duct Removal

To enable the replacement of a large section of ducting an existing duct needed to be separated at two locations to allow its removal. The work was carried out at a significant height from a scaffold platform.

SDP Plant Removal

BD Nuclear was commissioned to remove stainless steel pipework and vessels from the SDP Pant at Sellafield.

Commissioned to demolish concrete structures above the Fuel Element Debris (FED) Cells at Trawsfynydd.

Dragon Bio Shield Removal

To allow its segmentation and removal a combination of Wire and Track Sawing was utilised. BD Nuclear bespoke lifting bars were also used to ease the handling of the block sections following cutting.

Plinth Size Reduction

Due to a design change BD Nuclear were asked to reduce the height of two concrete plinths 14 metres long and 2.2metres wide by 800mm. we had a 12mm tolerance over the length of the plinth.

Congress Theatre Eastbourne

The project involved the careful removal of existing masonry walls and structural slab in the basement of the grade II* building, this work had to be carried out without damage to the existing fixtures and fittings.

Basement Window

BD Nuclear were contracted to create 2 window holes in a basement to allow more light in, a time critical job completed within the time frame
